A national wild life park, situated 45 kms from Baghmara, which is also known as the heaven of permanent winds. A mighty mini-canyon splits the Garo Hills plateau from that of Khasi-Hills across the Sib-bari stream. A majestic rocky plateau crowns the western ridge of the cliffs on the Garo Hills side of the mini-canyon.
The plateau offers an eye-catching view of the picturesque flatland of Bangladesh which is fed with twisting course of rivers & extensive extent of silvery inland waters. This plateau, swept by unintermittingly raging summer breeze and hurricane, has taken away to great depth all soil from its surface so as to convert the plateau into one stub of rock and debris. The Garos believe that when any faithful Garo dies his soul turns to Balpakram and resides there as long as their is time and it is also considered as the habitat for human souls.
The Balpakram plateau and canyon are rich with plants and herbs of medicinal value and also home to a three-horned rhino, wild cow and elephants and to name a few. Government has since declared the Balpakram National Park over an area of around two hundred and twenty square kilometers covering the plateau. The National Park could be reached via flying from Baghmara-Moheshkhola-Ranikor-Balent- Shil- long Road, at a point named Sib- bari.
The entire Balpakram area covered with beautiful wild flowers of peculiar colourful hues and countless fluttering butterflies of every hue in the month of April every year makes it a veritable land of dreams.
