Lakhnavaram Lake situated at 70 KM. from Warangal in Govindaraopet Mandal is a trendy picnic spot. The lake is a distinctly beautiful thing. Three leaning narrow valleys were closed down to create the lake. For each valley there is a small bund and hills form their natural barrier. The lake was built by the kings of kakatiya dynasty in 13th Century A.D. An added advantage is that the lake has a home in cut off surroundings allowing you free privacy for your holiday.
The whole region is seen as rich with green crops and good water resources. During Kakatiya reign the Lakhnavaram Lake which hid itself among the hills was found out and the expansions carried by the rulers built it up to a source of irrigation. An additional attraction to the mystical beauty is the suspension bridge. The mini island is where the hanging bridge that attaches you brings you to the mini island which is in the middle of the lake. The same authorities who manage the lake also offer boat riding facility, which will bring you very near the serene part of the lake.

Sammakka Saralamma Jatara or Medaram Jatara is an Indian state Telangana’s tribal festival of honouring goddesses. The Jatra starts from the Medaram of Tadvai Mandal of Mulugu district. It remembers the battle of a mother and daughter, Sammakka and Saralamma, against the world against the current rulers in the fight against an unjust law. It is thought that after Kumbha it is followed by Medaram jatara which attracts the maximum number of devotees in the country. About 10 million people came together in 2012. It is celebrated in Medaram during the time the goddesses of the tribals is believed to be visiting them. Medaram located in Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary, part of Dandakaranya, which is largest surviving forest belt in Mulugu is a remote place.
There are plenty of legends surrounding the miraculous powers of sammakka. Somewhere around 6-7 centuries ago, that is in the 13th century, some tribal hunters encountered a new born girl (Sammakka) shining in floods of light playing in a forest surrounded by tigers, so they took her to a tribunter who had the function of bringing up such foundlings. She was brought to their habitation . The head of the tribe took her up and raised her as a chief tain (she later became the saviour of the tribals of the region) she was married to Pagididda Raju a feudatory tribal chief of Kakatiyas (who ruled the country of Andhra from Warangal City between 1000 AD and 1380 AD). She was blessed with 2 daughters and one son namely Sarakka, Nagulamma and Jampanna respectively.
Jampanna vagu
Jampanna vagu is a sub river of the River Godavari. The history says that Jampanna is the tribal warrior & the son of Tribal Goddess Sammakka. Jampanna vagu named himself, after he died fighting against kakatiyan army in that stream. It is still red in colour with the blood of Jampanna (The red colour of water is scientifically attributed for the soil composition) jampanna vagu. Tribal’s pray that when they take a holy dip in the red water of Jampanna Vagu they do remember the sacrifice of their gods who save them and also give the courage to their souls. Over the Jampanna Vagu, there is a bridge built on the top, called the Jampanna Vagu bridge.
Both Tourist attractions Ramappa Temple, Ramappa lake and Laknavaram lake are situated in Mulugu distrtict. In this district, stream Jampanna vagu (stream) and Dayyala vagu (stream) exist in this district and few water falls are present here. Ramappa Lake built during 13th Century A.D. during the period of Ganapathi Deva proves the intricate irrigation work of the Kakatiyas. And the Laknavaram Lake with its surroundings is a deciduous forest and is a very popular tourist spot.
