The Cubbon Park that is officially called Sri. Chamarajendra Park is an ancient park found in the city centre in Central Administrative Area. The park creates sylvan setting for the State Legislature building- the Vidhana Soudha, the High Court Buildings – the Attara Kacheri and a number of other organizations situated on the periphery and within the park that form the Central Administrative Area.

Cubbon Park has a history of more than a hundred years. It was founded in the year 1870 by Sri John Meade, the then acting Commissioner of Mysore. The huge park envisaged was the idea of the then Chief Engineer of the State Major General Richard Sankey. To honour Sri John Meade, the park was first called as “Meade’s Park”, then it was known as the Cubbon park. Since the establishment of the park, it was built and enhanced by installing new structures and features. In the year 1927, the park was sanctioned to be officially named “Sri. Chamarajendra Park” in the celebration of Silver Jubilee of Sri. The rule of Krishnaraja Wodeyar in the Mysore State.

The Department of Horticulture administer Cubbon Park. The Deputy Director of Horticulture (Cubbon Park) is in-charge for administration / maintenance of the park.

When sun rays fall on the spray, it reflects shining effects like a string of pearl and thus giving it the poetic name- Pearl Valley.

About 28 km off Bangalore, in the silence of Ramohalli village, stands one of the marvels of nature – the Big Banyan Tree, locally called Dodda Aladha Mara. This tree which dates back to centuries has not only become an object of beauty but a place of serenity for the locals and visitors alike where one will find a mix of nature, history, and serenity.

Big Banyan Tree is said to be more than 400 years old, and its mere size is mind boggling. Occupying 3 acres of land and having a circumference of more than 250 metres, this tree is a botanical marvel. With time, the main trunk decayed but the tree continued growing by the use of its aerial roots whereby it formed an appearance of a mini forest from one tree.

Strolling in the shade of its sprawling canopy you will feel like stepping into a living maze of roots, branches and shade – it’s a strange sensation.

Situated in the very centre of the Old Bangalore, not far from the busy Kalasipalyam bus stand, is a historical treasure telling stories of heroism, art, royal past — Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace. This structure of the 18th century was a royal summer palace of a legendary ruler of Kingdom of Mysore – Tipu Sultan and was built in the elegant Indo-Islamic style.

Began during the tenure of Hyder Ali, the Tipu Sultan’s father, the constructions of the palace were completed by Tipu Sultan in 1791. Located with the confines of an ancient Bangalore Fort, the palace is an essence of grandeur and sophistication of Mysorean architectural style at the time.

The palace that has been constructed entirely from teak wood is decorated with the exquisitely carved arches, fluted columns, balconies, and frescoes. Although smaller than other royal edifices, its beauty is in the light construction and calm sensation.

Timings: The bank is open throughout all days from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
