Jains consider Shirad Shahapur village, part of Aundha Nagnath taluka, as the home of a famous historical temple. About 300 years ago, a statue of Lord Mallinath was made. It is believed that a famous occurrence established this temple. Years ago, people placed the idol at Ardhapur. Premanand Bhattarak once noticed that someone had put the idol midway among other crooked ones and was irritated by it. He got approval from the Nizam to move the idol to Karanja.

He was allowed by Nizam to move the idol to Karanja. When he set out on his travels, he spent some days in shirad shahapur. There, he dreamt of being instructed to put up the idol only at shirad shahpur and through this dream, the famous temple was built. Now there is good accommodation available for those making the pilgrimage. Many pilgrims from across India make the trip to this place.

Hindus consider the twelve jyotirlingas to be the most sacred places in India to visit. Five of these power plants are located in Maharashtra. These places have been devoted to Shiva for many centuries. Aundha-Nagnath is included in those temples. According to official sources, Anudha Nagnath works in the Hingoli District.
This shrine is properly valued, as people think of it as the Eighth (adya) among the important 12 jyotirlingas. Many believe that Dharmraj (the oldest of the Pandavas) built this magnificent temple during the 14 years that they spent away from Hastinapur.

There are many wonderful and beautiful carvings on the walls of the temple of Nagnath. The temple is Hemadpanthi style and covers an area of around 60,000 sq. ft. Many pilgrims come to the temple on these two major festivals.
