The 16th-century structure stands among Ganpatipule’s highest ranked tourist attractions while remaining strong following multiple centuries. Built during the era on a cliff location where Jaigad creek met with the Shastri River and the Arabian Sea it protected a vital port.
This impressive historic architectural achievement stretches into 13 acres at 250 feet elevation which will leave you spellbound. The structure is protected by a water-filled outer trench built as a barrier against invaders.
The remaining outer defensive structures and fortifying walls exist in their entirety with strong supportive bastions connecting them. From the upper fortress you can reach the stairways to experience breathtaking creek views. The central location of Fort Shivneri contains the governor residence of Shivaji’s chief military commander Kanhoji Angre.
