The best part about Son Beel is that it is a land which is converted to rice farm in the Winter season that lasts till March and then again gets filled with water and becomes a lake. The less depth of the lake causes it to over flow during the rainy season and water joins Kushira River through Kakra River and then flow down to Bangladesh. This great lake has all type of fishes with specialty the Bhujia fish. The lake has a beautiful scenery with hills on both easter an “)) western broadsides. The inlet and outlets are by River Shingla which comes from Manipur.

Mesmerizing seasonal wet land is home to many Hizol trees (Barringtonia Acutangula) rests up in a terrific view of the lake. The trees retain its style in both dry and wet season and half merged Hizol shape trees are a feature. Except for that sunrise and sunset by the lake offers a view with colorful effect with sun rays hitting from all along sides. The evening sky is completely twinkling with stars and smooth lake is glowing like bulb in dark.

Getting There
Son Beel is conveniently situated in Karimganj from where it is just 43km with a driving time of 51 mins away. There are various means of transport such as government busses, private taxis etc to enter to the beautiful and seasonal wetland Son Beel.

For a nature enthusiast Son Beel is best seen during rainy season that is during March to the onset of winters. Until then the lake is filled water and showcases a panorama which is rather rare elsewhere.

Malegarh Crematorium is a historic place where soldiers of The Revolt of 1857 were once cremated and therefore here the past is always a constant reminder. The revolt had costed more than 50 soldiers of their lives and the place was previously under Sylhet district of Bangladesh and before the Independence of India was under Karimganj district of West Bengal. It became a battle field for 1857 sepoy mutiny. The greater number of the troops engaged at the battle consisted of about 34 Native Infantry Regiments engaged for most part against British soldiers. At the time of mutiny, the place was in fact on the Indo Bangladesh border at a point of skirmish. Nevertheless, both BSF and Bangladesh border guards shifted their border fences to stop the actual site from becoming a no man’s zone. In the site there is one marble and stone plaque there with the narrative of war. By the state archaeology department the necessary efforts and steps are done to preserve the historical place.

The figures of these crematoriums reflect bravery and valor of sepoys in every respect. Also you will find inscriptions and plaques describing the stories of war occurring at that time. Two other places, Malegarh-Sepoy Mutiny Point 1 and Malegarh-Sepoy Mutiny Point 2, are places which attract the tourists apart from this.

For tourists, there are local transport services to reach Malegarh Crematorium. Auto rikshaws and cabs are also available in the place, but at high rates as compared to that of the buses. Adveturous roads are well connected. You come to enjoy on that road since its very adveturous.

Sutarkandi- Indo-Bangladesh Border Assam
It is famous for having an International trade centre i.e. the International border of India and Bangladesh. It is through this space export of fruits, silicon and coal are done. Karimganj, Assam, is the place which is situated there. This has a great scope of tourism and the government of Assam is working on the same. Located 14km away from Karimganj, it acts as the principal custom check post for the trade flow. National Highway 151 (old) and National Highway 7 (new) runs two national highway through Sutarkandi, with an interval of 45 km from the border of Sylhet town of Bangladesh.

One of the two popular things to see in the vicinity of Sutarkandi is the International Trade Centre close to the Indo-Bangladesh border. There is no shut down of this place, you can visit this place throughout the year to enjoy the far off views of Bangladesh which can be seen from Sutarkandi. Rainy season is a bit messy hence the best season to visit are during dry winter seasons.

Badarpur Fort is an impoant tourist located in Karimganj district of Assam. The building was inherited in the Mughal era and the present day Sylhet district was a part of the same building. Restoration work is going on to attract more tourists and it is situated along the banks of Barak River.

They all expands over a very large area and for those that can come in to the fort by its main entrance (that is still standing) one enters into most of the fort that has since become ruins. This place has a set view of the Barak River.

Here the wetland Son Beel is a beautiful wetland between hills on its east and west side. Located here is Malegarh Crematorium where the bodies of sepoy mutiny soldiers were cremated. Eolabari Tea Estate is a beautiful garden and it is only 15 km from Karimganj. Even though it is 85 km away, Khashpur is another place you can visit. In addition, it is sprawling with tea gardens and is a historic site.

Getting There
Rental cars available from Silchar and Lumding will be able to reach Badarpur Fort directly. Fort Badarpur is about 27 km from the city of Karimganj and you can take buses as well as cab to reach here. The fort can be reached from Silchar and Shillong Airports by taxis. Private buses that ply between Karimganj and the nearby towns as well as cities are on regular basis from the bus stands and there are ample of taxis and auto rickshaws available in the bus stands for you to take to the fort.

Badarpur Fort can be visited at its best time in winter. During monsoon it is hot and River Barak overflows with water. Winter is pleasant and dry.

The name suggests that Cachar Paper Mill is a paper mill situated in Hailakandi district of Assam. It is also famous, it being the only industrial undertaking in entire south Assam and the neighbouring districts of Mizoram.

However, Cachar Paper Mill has been able to exhibit steady growth since its inception, although such infrastructural support is lacking. But nowadays, they are facing financial crisis as well.

The town is situated on the banks of River Barak and falls in the census town of Panchgram, which is one of the best townships in Assam.

Panchagram is situated near Badarpur and Silchar and if you go there, you will be able to visit the tourist places of both these places.

It has a shrine of Shani near the paper mill, which you can visit.

Cachar Paper Mill is best to visit in Winter. The weather is pleasant as well in Assam, especially this time. This time is a monsoon, which are unpredictable and landslides are common. Summers are very hot.
