Ulihatu, a small yet historically significant village in Jharkhand, holds a special place in the hearts of every Jharkhandi. Located about 37 km away from the district headquarters and 80 km from the state capital, Ranchi, Ulihatu is a place where the great freedom fighter of India Bhagwan Birsa Munda – also called as Dharti Aaba (Father of the Earth) was born. Ulihatu always remains as unforgettable as it is the birth place of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, who was synonym for the tribal freedom movement of India. Born in 1875, Birsa Munda was a key figure in the Munda Rebellion against British colonial power in the late 19th century. His dream of tribal rights, freedom, and social justice stays in Jharkhand till today. He is remembered as a leader who struggled on behalf of that tribal community and its culture, rights, and from exploitation of Native People.
Birsa Munda began a of freedom movement in 1835 which inspired the tribal people to fight against the British and the rulers who exploited them.
The best season to visit in Ulihatu is during the winter season (October to March) when the weather is mild and suitable for outing. The peaceful ambiance and their milder weather make it ideal for outdoor adventures and to relate to the nature.

Located at a distance of 50 km from Ranchi, Dombari Buru is a mesmerizing hill, which is a silent spectator to the courage and sacrifice of Bhagwan Birsa Munda during Ulgulan (Rebellion) against the British colonial rule. The hill, which earlier became red with blood, in the rebellion, is now all set to get a significant makeover, and face-lift, courtesy Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
This historic hill has a lot of historical importance in the tribal history of Jharkhand and has been identified with the legendary freedom fighter which makes it must visited landmark for all those who wants to be near to history and pay tribute to the struggle of tribal people against colonialism forces.
Buru is famous most for his being part of the Ulgulan towards the end of the 19th century, while the tribal leader Bhagwan Birsa Munda, led his community in a heroic stand against the oppressive rule of the British and also of its exploitation of tribal land and culture. Ulgulan had the hills and forests of Jharkhand transformed into battlegrounds of the old-fashioned and ferocious rebellion of the tribesmen and midway to the central site of tribal resistance being Dombari Buru.
The hill said to have decreased to blood of tribal martyrs who sacrifice themselves in worry of freedom is now red. This mini Maglai Hill – is an emblem of courage & the selfless sacrifices by Mundā community headed by the freedom fighter Birsa Munda for the preservation of their motherland, culture & own identity.
