Aswalkanta is one amongst the famous Hindu temples is based on the bank of the largest River Brahmaputra in Abutting area of kamrup, in the state of Assam. By the capital of_Assam, Guwahati temple located is, and in the area by appellant, the famous tourist spot is. This temple was made by the Ahom King Shiva Singha in The year 1720 AD. According to Hindu myths there was once when Lord Krishna was on the way to Narakasur with his horses in dire need of reprieve in this location where they were put to rest. This is why the temple is named Aswaklanta temple as it signiffs weak horses. Another legend says, Arjuna, the third of the Pandavas was forced to live here so that his son Abhimanyu could be slain in a war. This was a conspiracy, therefore, this place was known as Abhi-kranta in Assamese language that later converted into Aswaklanta. In the year 1897 the greater part of this temple was broken by the massive earthquake but at the instigation of Lord Curzon, Viceroy of the place at that time the temple was re- constructed. In the bed of the Bagoria river, there was earlier a Kunda or a sacrificial spot that has been washed away by the River Brahmaputra.

It is better to visit the spot during the winter months, especially if one is a birder as one can record the migrant birds. Climate in Lambhayat is very good through the month of November & March and sometime summer is also hot. Monsoon also rains during the ongoing thunderstorm and, not the best time to visit this place.
Baihata Chariali, Asam: Madan Kamdev is a archaeological site that belongs to the period of 10th and 12th century AD. Among the archaeologists there is a controversy about the builder of this temple but probably the Madan Kamdeva tempe was built by Pala kings ruled by Indra Pala, Ratna Pala and Go Pala as discussed by Dr. Pradeep Sharma. The ruined remain of the temple contained statues of 6 headed Bhairava, 6 headed Vishnu, 4 headed Shiva, sun, etc. The Mandakini River goes past just below the temple area, and there is a large swampy land as well. Hindu mythology says Lord Shiva, had burned the God of love or Madan to ashes and this was the place where God of love and pleasures revived. This area was surfaced only in the year 1977, when the Indian Archaeological Department took up the work of excavation in the area.

500 meters spread around the place is the ruins of Madan Kamdeva. The destroyed include 12 temples and the Madan Kamdeva temple at the centre. Next to this is an old temple having Shiva as its deity called Gopeshpur temple which also deserves a visit.
Getting There
As the place is only 40 km away from Guwahati, it is easy to be reached. It is best to take the road in order to reach the Madan Kamdev temple. The temple is reached easily through the National Highway 52, axis of cars are available to reach the temple.
The best idea would be to visit Madan Kamdev temple, in the winter, the weather will remain perfect for a trip. This place is also ideal during spring. Although the weather is good in summer but it gets too hot in the same weather so that it is not a proper time for the trip. Also monsoon rains can spoil the travel plans and thus should be swept besides.
