Originally constructed in the period of Hyder Ali, Begambur Big Mosque is the largest mosque of Dindigul and perhaps it is the oldest mosque also. This mosque was named after Ammer-un-Nisha Begum, Hyder’s younger sister, who passed away in 1766 and was buried in the premises of this Mosque. The architecture of the mosque is Mughal and the construction is over 300 years old and the architecture includes a couple of minarets and a very big prayer hall to offer prayers at the shrine. It is a worship house that is frequented by a lot of people, especially during Ramzan and Bakrid.
