Pillalamarri or Peerla Marri is an 800 year old banyan tree with an incredible spread of three acres. Nature’s wonder has merakuku that fan out like pillars and even reach the ground. Much like a large canopy supported on pillars, Pillalamarri is also known as the “Thousand Pillar Tree”. In the vicinity of this popular banyan tree, there is a museum where you could see many sculptures and artefacts from the region. Also, there is a mini zoo that covers birds, and animals such as peacocks, rabbits and even monkeys. If you go there during monsoon months even you may get an opportunity for boating near the Pillalamarri Banyan Tree in the lake.

2. Koilkonda Fort

Koilconda Fort is located on the top of a hill, a former outpost of the Qutub Shahi dynasty, and affords wonderful views of the surrounding terrain. During your trek to the fort you will come across various gates with unique Telugu inscriptions and examples. The fort has seven gates, mosque and Ashurkhana, which are described as testimony to the Qutub Shahis’s achievements in architecture and warfare.

3. Jurala Dam

Jurala Dam is project situated on Krishna River, 77 km away from Mahabubnagar Bus Station and is a hydro electric project. Also named the Indira Priyadarshini Project, this dam was inaugurated way back in the year 1995. It is a power generator and irrigation system in the locality. The right and left canals of the project water thousands of acres of agricultural land. There is a crocodile park, deer park and fish culture centre nearby the dam as well. As it is there are also several temples in proximity of the Jurala Dam too.

4. Gadwal Fort

Gadwal is a wonderful temple town near Mahbubnagar and famous for handloom sarees and its 17th – century fort and situated approximately 63 km away. The other name of the Gadwal Fort is “Nalla Kotta” which means “Black Fort” because it is constructed of black stone. Strategic at the fort, there would be a gigantic cannon. This cannon is 32 ft and is believed to be one of the largest cannons in Asia. Although the fort is in ruins today, the fact that it is having several many temples, including an iconic Sri Chennakesava Swamy temple make it worth a visit. There is as well a weaving centre at Gadwal Fort where you can observe the famous Gadwal sarees being woven. These sarees can be described through their bright colours and complex patterns.

5. Mallela Theertham

This is a waterfall of the Krishna River in Nallamala forest. Mallela Theertham waterfall, about 150 feet tall, makes a pool at the bottom where you can dip. This waterfall is surrounded by lively greenery and rocks and gives a scenic refreshing experience. You could trek approximately a km from the road to get to this waterfall which will be very interesting and adventurous. Near to the waterfall, there is also a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Despite the fact that in summers the water flow at Mallela Theertham narrows down, and the margins are quite gorgeous throughout the year. Water streaming through the thick forest of the Nallamala’s is from a small stream later merging with the great river Krishna.
