Located in Golaghat district, Garampani is a small town in Assam. It is famous for Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary, which is one of the oldest sanctuaries in Assam. The sanctuary isn’t located in Golaghat district. It lies 25 km away in a district named Karbi Anglong

Garampani is situated 117 m above the seal level. The Kaziranga National Park is also located nearby and is a famous attraction here.

Its vicinity, Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary and Kaziranga National Park make it famous among tourists. Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary has hot springs and waterfalls and they look beautiful. You would be able to spot some rare birds here as well. The Nambor Sanctuary surrounds the Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary and has 51 rare species of orchid.

Kaziranga National Park is located at a distance of 65 km from the Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary. This park is home to various species of flora and fauna like leopard, tiger, elephant, one-horned rhinoceros, clouded leopard, and many more. You can also go for tea plantation and village tours here.

Getting There 

Garampani is easily accessible from Furkating Railway Junction, which is located 20 km from the sanctuary and you can take any rented private cars to reach Garampani.

Dimapur airport in Nagaland also has many cabs that will take you to the site. National Highway 39 passes through Garampani and the state buses are available from Guwahati to reach the site.

Negherinating Shiva Doul Shiva Mandir in Dergaon district in Assam is a well-known. It is constructed atop a hillock, it comes under the Golaghat district. It was built over 8th-9th century, by Kachari rulers, but was destroyed because of some calamities. It was revived once again the year 1687 by an Ahom king named Rajeswar steinga.

It was said by myth that the original structure comprising of stones from the bank of river Dihing. It had, however, been destroyed and its ruins were seen in a forest called Gajapenemara. It was then reconstructed by Ahom King Susenphaa but River Dihing changed its course and demolished the temple once again. Some later found out by a devotee Shiva linga and the remains of the temple submerged in the river range at that time, known as Sheetal Negheri. The temple was again re-established and restored by Rajeswar Singha and is still present standing.

Shiva temple is flanked by four other temples of Durga and Vishnu, Ganesh, Surya each. The principal temple has a whole banalinga which is of 3 feet in diameter.

Negheringing Shiva mandir is situated on the top of a mountain and in order to reach this destination you have to visit Dergaon, the city first. Alternatively, driving from Furkating Railway Junction with a hire car to Dergaon or and state buses connecting the place Jorhat too. National Highway 37 are located at Dergaon and here from temple visited by only distance of 1.5 km. The Bus stand has numerous auto rickshaws for the temple hillock to go to.

Best Time to Visit

It is the best time to place visits to Negheriting Shiva Mandir during winter season. One can visit during Mahashivratri as well on Pradosham days.

It is situated in Deopahar village of Golaghat district, Assam. The old ruins and monuments allure guests from mankind all over and is a good sight to visit. This place is just adjacent from Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) and near to Kaziranga National Park as well.

The mythology of this place is that it was a part of Kingdom of Jarasanda, in ancient Assam. Stretched over 135 hectares of land, this place is designated as a reserve forest and is one of the finest tourist spots of Assam.

Deopahar is 100 percent covered in forests and you would be able to find plenty of trees and bushes throughout here, and some are of medicinal value. Besides, the island is a habitat to various species of snakes including Indian python, great snake, etc.

Deopahar ruins is known for being an A grade tourist destination in Assam and it is easily accessible. The Uncle Robin’s children museum is situated on the main road of the Golaghat town and is the famous visitor place of the area. Dr. Robin Banerjee opened this children’s museum in Golaghat’s locality and you can view this museum inside the residence of the same. He was born in Murshidabad and after medical studies from U K, he joined British army in the year 1937. Later he came to Assam and worked under a Scottish physician. It was during this period that he became quite aware of the customs and the local culture prevalent in the state. Dr. Roy was lured by the flora and fauna of the state and therefore chose to settle in Assam and joined Dhansiri Medical Association near Kaziranga as a medic. But unfortunately, Dr. Robin could not materialise his dream of establishing a museum in the district and met his maker. This museum is a memorial to the famous wild man of India where you can see many mementos, memorabilia, dolls, personal belongings of Dr. Banerjee. Many of his paintings are put on display in the museum and lively photographs that were taken by Dr. Banerjee from his habitat in Assam are also shown. There is 93 number of artifacts preserved in the museum out of which the principal one is a horse of Turquoise and a turban of Naga Warrior. The museum has also a collection of important documentary files starting from 1953 up to 1998.

The museum too has pretty showpieces which Dr. Banerjee had received as gifts on his travel to places all over the world. Golaghat district trip can best be had in the winter when the climate is suitable for vacationing and your time at the museum of exploring will also be comfortable. The museum gates are kept open from Monday through Friday from morning 10 am to afternoon 1 pm, then they again open from 2 pm to 4 pm.

It is located at about 25 kms from the Golaghat town of Assam. This area is enveloped with maximum of tropical forests and was declared as a sanctuary by the Assam government in the very year 2003. This sanctuary is a part of the Kaziranga Karbi Anglong Elephant Reserve and is a home to a variety of wild life and also houses a botanical legacy. A large number of birds pertaining to various species can be seen here and are seen in great numbers with many being very rare to be seen, a few being great pied hornbill, adjutant stork, white winged wood duck, wreathed horn bill among the reptiles it has tortoise, python, monitor lizard etc. You can also find some rare species of orchids here besides other eccentric flora collections such as ajar, gomari, bhelu, nahor, poma, udiyam, etc. One can spot at least elephant, pig-tailed macaque, stumped-tailed macaque, asiatic tiger, asiatic fishing cat, leopard, barking deer, sambar and slow loris, etc, in the Nambor-Doigrung Wildlife Sanctuary. This wildlife reserve is furthermore renowned for hot water spring and is spotted with a number of other sparkling water bodies and is an oasis of green spread all around.
