

Katra Masjid is a religious structure built in between 1723-1724 by Nawab Murshid Quli Khan, which is one of the chief attractions representing the fusion of Indo-Islamic architecture which makes it one of the best tourist places within Murshidabad. Its unique, stunning black basalt pillars and beautifully completed dones, make it an actual visual treat for visitors. Katra Masjid is one of the biggest caravanserais found in Indian subcontinent; a sight to watch especially during the cool evening when it paints in a soft Muslim light of pink.

Known through history as “palace with a thousand doors”, Hazarduari Palace is located at the campus of Kila Nizramat. The palace was formerly a house to the Nawabs but is now a museum exhibit which showcases collection of arts, weapons, artefacts and historical relics. When touring this magnificent palace have a time journey to the grandeur era of the Nawabs. The00 doors of the palace out 1000 are also constructed falsely to confuse the robbers and be caught by the guards quickly.

Located on the West bank of Hooghly River, Khushbagh Cemetery is the garden cemetery with the tombs of the Nawabs of Bengal, Siraj ud-Daulah, Alivardi Khan. Beautifully designed gardens around the tombs form a calm environment so it is a perfect place to relax the mind.

Nizamat Imambara is an Islamic congregation hall rich in historical and architectural value, that is one of the historically iconic places in Murshidabad to be visited. Come in to see the amazing chandeliers and the largest canon in India placed on the grounds. The other attraction inside the attraction is the Nizamat Fort or Nizamat Kila that had been the bungalow of the Nawabs. The strong entrance gate of the fort is referred to as the Black Hole Monument, celebrating the sad event known as the “Black Hole of Calcutta”.

In Topekhana, Nawab’s Artillery Park, Jahan Kosha Cannon is a giant cannon, one of the largest in this world. Designed in the period of Sher Shah Suri, this giant cannon is approximately 17.5 feet tall and weigh approximately around 7 tons. Whilst touring the top places to see in Murshidabad take a few moments to admire the Jahan Kosha Cannon and admire the mastery and engineering genius of years gone past.
